Bergerac lies on the northern bank of the Dordogne River.
In the western part of the department.
It is one of the largest and most important towns in the region and well worth a visit. The highlight of a visit to Bergerac is the old town which lies to the north of the river, reached by walking straight up from the main riverside car park.
Here are to be found some lovely streets and squares to explore, and a good selection of boutiques. At the lower end of the main square, Place Palissiere, stands a fountain where the locals once did there washing and all around the square are lots of cafes.
Getting there-
Take the D666 and D911 direction Villeneuve. Turn left onto D911e through Ste Livrade-sur-Lot then D217 and D236 to Casseneuil then D133 to join the N21. This will take you straight into Bergerac.
